May 5, 1953 - September 27, 2018

Ann "Annie" Elizabeth McCarty, resident of Ponca City, passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2018. She was 65 years old. A graveside ceremony will be held on Monday, October 1, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the Longwood Cemetery in Ponca City with Pastor David Frees officiating.

Annie was born on May 5, 1953 in Ponca City to her parents, William Tolman McCarty and Elizabeth Jane (Blodgett) McCarty. Annie loved animals and enjoyed volunteering at the Ponca City Humane Society with her friend Dayna. Together, they traveled hundreds of miles helping dogs and cats find their forever homes. Annie also helped trap hundreds of stray cats to be spayed and neutered in order to help diminish the stray cat population. In addition to animals, Annie loved fireworks and was amazed by their beautiful colors and how they lit up the sky. Her favorite food was ice cream and she loved going to Freddy's for a delicious treat. She even celebrated her 65th birthday at Freddy's this year!

Annie's family would like to thank those who helped take care of her, especially Dayna Mann, Mandy Hubler, and Alysa Pressnall. Annie was born with Down Syndrome but that by no means dampened her spirit. Annie lived a great life and was loved and cared for so much by her parents. Her father would take her on long car rides where they enjoyed snacking on ice from the gas station. She was a tough kid who was loved by those lucky enough to know her. She will be deeply missed.

Annie was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Margo Richardson, and one of her caregivers, Brenda Cain. Survivors include her aunt, Polly Dawes and two cousins, Bill Richardson and Stacy Varnal.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Annie's honor to the Ponca City Humane Society, 900 W. Prospect, Ponca City, OK 74601.
