Mrs. Ladner was
born June 17, 1927 in Blackwell, Oklahoma, the daughter of John Bruce
Wells and Thelma Arnetta (Mitchell) Wells. As a youngster Phyllis had a
great fondness for her grandmother Effie Wells. who would take her on
train trips from Blackwell to Ponca City.
She was married to
Jim “Jehu” Ladner on October 1, 1943 in Corpus Christi, Texas. The
couple moved to Ponca City in 1945. Mrs. Ladner was employed some 10
years as a custodian for Conoco. In earlier years she taught Sunday
school at the Liberty Baptist Church. Her enjoyments included her
family, watching her children and grandchildren play sports, teaching
her great grandchildren bible songs, shopping at Dollar Tree with her
granddaughter Holly, cooking, her dogs, playing games, fishing, her
flowers, crocheting and embroidery work.
She is survived by
her two children, Linda Petrie of Ponca City, and David Ladner and wife,
Julie, of Arlington, Texas; her grandchildren, Zac Ladner and wife,
Kendra, of Ponca City, Holly Ladner of Ponca City, Jim Ladner and wife,
Billie Jo, of Austin, Texas, Amy Wilson and husband, Andy, of Arlington,
Barry Petrie of Ponca City, Blair Petrie and wife, Michah, Roanoke,
Texas, and Blaine Petrie and wife, Callie, of Roanoke; great
grandchildren, Lauren Petrie, Camden Petrie, Maddie Petrie, Brady Ladner,
Riley Ladner, Joshua Wilson, Luke Wilson and Dey’sean Busby; her loving
niece, Marcie Close and husband, Larry; numerous other extended family
and friends; and her pet dog, Angel.
She was preceded
in death by her parents; her husband Jim “Jehu” Ladner; her son, Kenneth
Wayne Ladner; two sisters, Charlotte Lee Goad and Marilyn Arnetta
Nelson; her son-in-law, Richard W. Petrie; a longtime friend, Margaret
Miller; her pet dog, Joey Cashmere Ladner.
Family will
receive other family and friends from 5 to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 9, 2013
at Grace Memorial Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m.
Monday, June 10, 2013 at the Longwood Cemetery with Sunset Baptist
Church Pastor, Matt Brown, presiding.
Casket bearers
will be grandsons, Zac Ladner, Blair Petrie, Blaine Petrie and Jim
Ladner, nephews Buster Nelson and Larry Close. Honorary casket bearers
will be Barry Petrie and Andy Wilson.
