Barbara was born in Cedar Vale, Kansas on February 15, 1932. Her family moved to Sedan Kansas, and then to Shidler, Oklahoma when Barbara was five. Her parents were Cecil and Goldie Huffman. She was the oldest of four children and she helped care for her three younger brothers. She attended Central State University where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. She was a member of Alphi Chi and Kappa Delta Phi honorary education fraternities and she was the state president of Future Teachers of America. It was there that she met her husband, J. C. They were married at the Central State Chapel on June 11, 1955. J. C. was hired by Conoco and worked on a seismograph crew shortly after their marriage. They moved nineteen times in nine years. During this time they had their three sons, all in different states.

They came back to Oklahoma in 1966 and moved to Ponca City. Barbara taught for 28 years, she taught Chapter 1 reading for 23 of those years. She returned to college and earned her masters at Oklahoma State University when her boys were young. Barbara enjoyed her teaching career and touched many lives. She wrote a grant that brought Accelerated Reader to Ponca City. That later paved the way for other schools to write similar grants. After retirement she became active in the Retired Teachers Organization where she has served as secretary for the past eight years. She was awarded the Very Important Member Award in 2008. She was also a board member of the Child Development Center. She enjoyed helping with their fundraisers every year.

Barbara was an active member of First United Methodist Church. She sang in the choir and enjoyed playing her clarinet. She was also a member of the Deborah Group of the United Methodist Women.

Barbara's five grandboys were very special to her. She was never too busy for them. When they were young she took care of them, and always tucked them in with a good book. As they grew older she attended their sporting events or orchestra and band concerts. She rejoiced at their success in high school and college, and was a constant encourager. Barbara also enjoyed cooking, she was known to try out new recipes on her family on special occasions.

If you couldn't find Barbara she was usually in her flower garden working. She enjoyed working outside and nurturing her flowers; she knew the name of each one. She also took pride in helping J. C. mow and maintain their lawn. She enjoyed walking with her friends and knew the importance of exercise and most importantly friendships.

Her life is celebrated by her surviving family, her husband of 53 years, J. C.; sons, Karl Inskeep and wife Merry of Bartlesville; Keith Inskeep and wife Janice of Ponca City: grandsons, Eric Inskeep, Connor Inskeep, Brett Inskeep, Ryan Inskeep, and Austin Inskeep. JC Inskeep passed away Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2015, in Ponca City. He was 83 years of age. A celebration of his life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20th at Northeast Baptist Church. Brother Larry Nigh will officiate, burial will take place at Longwood Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.

On Jan. 31, 1932, JC was born in Guthrie, Okla. His parents were Charles and Ethel Inskeep he was the youngest of three children. He was blessed to have two older sisters; Doris and Charlotte. He grew up on a farm and attended a one-room school house until 8th grade. At times he would ride his horse Ribbon to school.

JC earned his Bachelor's Degree in mathematics with a teaching certificate and a minor in physics from the University of Central Oklahoma. He hitchhiked his first semester from Guthrie. Later, he worked various jobs to support himself through college such as driving a school bus, working at the firehouse, and working in the college cafeteria. JC enlisted in the Army in Sept. of 1954 and served two years. He was stationed at Fort Bliss Texas as a Survey Specialist. During that time he married his college sweetheart, Barbara Huffman on June 11, 1955. JC taught high school math for one year, and then begin working for Conoco on the seismographic crew. They moved twenty-one times in nine years. During this time they had their three sons, all in different states. They lived in a small trailer that they could easily hitch to the back of their '57 Chevy.

They returned to Ponca City, Oklahoma in 1966 when JC was promoted to the title of Geophysicist. After 28 years of service he took the early retirement opportunity from Conoco in 1985. At that time he took care of the family farm in Guthrie and spent time with his mother who lived there.

JC was the type of grandpa who was actively involved in his grandkids lives. He wasn't afraid of changing diapers, and he joined the kids at nap time. He had five grandsons all within 6 years; that's when he and Barbara decided it was time to buy that Chevrolet suburban. The grandsons enjoyed playing chase and hide and go seek in the hay bales in the barn. They were able to help feed the newborn calves, and play on their trampoline. He instilled in his grandsons the importance of taking care of what you had. He could fix anything with a small amount of baling wire, and he wouldn't throw anything away. He loved nothing more than mechanically tinkering with anything from his tractors, lawn mowers and cars to a broken radio.

JC struggled with health issues during the last five years of his life. He was truly fortunate that God brought loving individuals to help during that time. The family would like to thank; Alegra, Sylvia, Stacy, Janis, Precise Home Health Care, and Sandra Keen. We are also extremely grateful to Via Christi Nursing Facility and Hospice.

His life is celebrated by his surviving family members; sister Charlotte and husband Arthur of Guthrie, sons: Karl Inskeep and wife Merry of Bartlesville; Keith Inskeep and wife Janice of Ponca City; grandsons: Eric Inskeep and wife Joni of Woodward, Connor Inskeep and wife Shelbe of Bangladesh, Brett Inskeep and wife Chelsie of Broken Arrow, Ryan Inskeep and wife Grace of Stillwater and Duncan, Austin Inskeep and fiancé Jordan Hull of Ponca City. Two great granddaughters: Rylee and Avery Inskeep of Woodward; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
