Final rites are to be held at 2:30 PM Saturday at the Miles Memorial Chapel for Zebedee Z. Bales, 47, of 943 N. First St., who was killed instantly Wednesday afternoon when struck by a passenger train while working on tracks north of the city.
The Rev. Sherwin Glazener, pastor of the Liberty Baptist Church, will officiate. Assisting will be the Rev. Luther Berry, pastor of the Red Rock Baptist Church.
Interment is to be in the Longwood Cemetery, east of the city.
Pallbearers will be Cecil Tully, Alvin Plut, Zack Newlin, Dewey Wright, L. D. Fanions, and John Pat Carpenter of Red Rock.
Bales, who had been employed as a section worker by the Santa Fe for the past 10 years, was born December 22, 1903, at Lebanon, Oklahoma. He had lived in Ponca City and vicinity for the past 20 years, farming near here before being employed by the railroad.
He and Mrs. Bales, to whom he was married March 1, 1929, had lived in Red Rock for the past five years, returning to Ponca City January 1 of this year.
He is survived by his wife, three sons, J. R. Bales, of Marland, Pfc. Donald Bales of Camp Polk, Louisiana, Tony Bales of the home, one daughter, oleta of the home, his mother, Mrs. Effie Bales of Gould, two sisters, Mrs. A. O. Miller of Conroe, Texas, Mrs. Earl Roberts of Gould, four brothers, James Bales of 346 South Lincoln St., A. W. Bales of Ponca City, O. D. Bales of Davidson, Duff Bales of Medill, and one grandson.
