Sandra Lee Bales, resident of Ponca City, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2011 at her home. She was 62 years of age.
Sandra was born January 18, 1949 in Houston, Texas, the daughter of Clarence Briley Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Osborn Briley. She had lived with her family in Dayton, Ohio prior to moving to Vinita, Oklahoma where she received her early schooling.
She was married to James Bales on August 26, 1969 in Ponca City. In earlier years Sandra had been a beautician and waitress. She was employed as a cashier at Walmart from 1992 until 2004. She was a member of the Grace Tabernacle of Praise Church. Her enjoyments included working with crafts, gardening, planting flowers, especially roses, making quilts, computer games, reading, watching SciFi movies, baking, cooking, listening to oldies music and going to the casino.
She is survived by her husband, James, of the home four children, Donald Ray Bales and wife, Tammy, of Kildare, Cheryl Denise Bales of Ponca City, Jared James Bales of Oklahoma City, and Janetta Goodger and husband, Clint, of Ponca City two brothers, Skip Briley and Mike Briley, both of Vinita, Oklahoma four grandchildren, Pheobe Ann Bales, Elizabeth Atkinson Bales, James Arthur Bales and Sarah Alayna Bales. She was preceded in death by her parents and a stepfather, Deward Pitts.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2011 at the Foursquare Church, 700 West Broadway. Grace Tabernacle of Praise Pastor Bill Nash will preside at the service assisted by Foursquare Church Pastor Blaine Herron. Interment will follow in the Longwood Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
