Funeral services for Donald Dean Bales, 21, Marland, who was burned to death early Friday, will be at 2:30 PM Sunday in the First Baptist Church here.
Bales, a railroad worker, was fatally burned when a stove exploded in his apartment in the Marland section house. His wife was visiting relatives in Skedee at the time. His body was found by a passerby, according to the Associated Press.
Born May 25, 1934, in Madill, he moved as a small boy to Ponca City, where he attended public schools. During the last year of his schooling, he joined the National Guard. In September, 1951, when the National Guard was mobilized, he was called into active service. He received his discharge February 14, 1952, due to the death of his father, the late Zebedee Bales.
He was a member of the Red Rock Baptist Church.
Bales is survived by his wife, the former Mrs. Letha Dean Richardson, whom he married May 30, 1952, in Skedee; a son, Kenneth Dean Bales; his mother, Mrs. Minnie Hand of Ponca City; two brothers, James Robert Bales of Marland and Tony Neal Bales of Ponca City; a sister, Mrs. Oleta Foster, Ponca City, and his grandmothers, Mrs. Bertha Cook and Mrs. Effie Bales, Ponca City.
The Rev. Sherwood Glazener, pastor of Liberty Baptist Church, will officiate at the service. Pallbearers will be Bill Birkes, Paul Bilbrey, Keith Ward, Bob Clark, J. T. Newlin and Jess Caldwell. Burial will be in the Longwood Cemetery under direction of Miles Funeral Home.
