Gwenneth Ruth Beck Thompson passed away July, 14, 2023 at Shawn Manor in Ponca City, Oklahoma. She was 96. She was the oldest child of Abner and Pearl Pfrimmer Beck. She was born August 10, 1926, on the Paul Ford farm south of Billings, Oklahoma. At the age of two she moved with her family to the Bressie Community south of Ponca City. She attended the Tearney and Marland Schools. She married John Thompson on November 23, 1942. Gwen and John were the parents of Gary John and Sheron Jeannette. They lived on the Bar L Ranch where they were farmers/ranchers. In 1969 they moved to Ponca City, then in 1976 moved to the Kildare area and raised and raced quarter horses. After John's death in 1985, she continued to reside in the Kildare area until 1993 then she moved to town. Gwen worked at the Senior High School Cafeteria and Miller Markets. Her hobbies were crocheting, making baby Afghans for all new family babies, making tablecloths for daughters and granddaughters, and working in her yard. Gwen was a dog person and had many dogs over the years and is survived by her loyal companions Mutt and Jeff.
She is survived by son Gary and wife Kay Thompson of Stillwater, daughter Sheron and husband Alan Smith of Dexter, Kansas, grandchildren Tammie and Zane Barham of Katy, Texas, Doug and Cassie Thompson of Liberty, Missouri, and Denise and Doug Bilyeu of Haslet, Texas, Teresa and Dan Bogner of Galesburg, Kansas, and Kristi and Justin Snipes of Dewey, Oklahoma. Great grandchildren Brittney and Patrick Burns, Drew and Brittany Barham, Bethany Barham, Kaleb Bilyeu, Kaylee and Ryan Bernardy, Kaylin Bilyeu, Zachary and Madison Thompson, Mackenzie and Brayden Jimerson, Peyton Thompson, Mark Bogner and Wyatt Snipes. Great-great grandchildren Hudson Barham and Brooklynn Bilyeu. Brother Dwight Beck of Marland, brother Bryce and Darla Beck of Mountain View, California, and sister Sandra and Freddie Reynolds of Tulsa and numerous nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her husband, parents, and an infant sister.
A visitation for friends and family is being held Tuesday, July 18, 2023, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Grace Memorial Chapel. Services will be held at the First Christian Church in Ponca City on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at 11 a.m. Honorary casket bearers are grandsons and great grandsons. Condolences and memories may be shared online at www.gracememorialchapel.net. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church.
