January 26, 1925 ~ February 16, 2022

Luella Vey Buttram, age 97, former resident of Ponca City, Oklahoma, passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2022, in Denton, Texas. Lou was born to Glenn Otis and Valla Ellen (Lewellen) Bartgis during a family trip to Weatherford, Oklahoma on January 26, 1925. She grew up in Grainola, Oklahoma and was a graduate of Grainola High School where she played tennis and girls basketball.

Lou married James K "JK" Buttram on January 28, 1955, and they made their home in Ponca City, Oklahoma. JK preceded her in death on November 15, 2011.

Lou loved people and loved the Lord. She found great joy in church, greeting all with hugs and smiles. She was an active member of Longwood Baptist Church in Ponca City and gained many friends while participating in several bowling leagues. She had a strong sense of fashion; qualities she effectively used working at McClintock's Shoe Store and later Dana's Dress Shop. Lou was an avid sports fan. Watching OKC Thunder, anything Oklahoma, and Atlanta Braves was her entertainment.

Following retirement Lou and JK moved to a farm near Asher, Oklahoma in 1994. She quickly embraced her new surroundings, making many new friends and became a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Asher.

Lou had a strong independent spirit, was the life of every party, had an infectious laugh and could light up the room with her smile. She is survived by three daughters, Billie Osborn and her husband Bill of Lawton, Oklahoma, Ava Goldman and her husband Danny of Ponca City, Oklahoma and Pam Parker of Dallas, Texas; ten grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren; her sister, June Johnston and husband Dick of Grainola, Oklahoma; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her parents and her siblings, Otis Bartgis, Dee Bartgis, and Delois Reed preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, March 5, 2022, at First Baptist Church of Asher, Oklahoma, with Pastor Dwayne Johnson officiating. Graveside service will follow in the Longwood Cemetery, Ponca City, Oklahoma at 3:00.
