Glenn O. Hawkins, 85, of Burbank, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2012 at the Fairfax Hospital.
Glenn was born on August 24, 1926 in Goodland, KS to Sanford and MamiePeters Hawkins. Glenn was a Storage Tank WelderBuilder. Glenn moved to Oklahoma when he was in the 5th grade and attended and graduated the Kaw City Schools. Glenn enlisted in the US Army serving during the Korean War where he was awarded the bronze star with a V device for heroism in combat. After his discharge, he was married to Rose Taylor on Nov. 28, 1953 in Ponca City. Glenn was a member of the American Legion Post 220 in Kaw City for over 50 years. He helped put out flags on Memorial Day, dyed eggs for the annual Easter Egg hunt and was the 1 Wiener roaster during Halloween in Kaw City. He also enjoyed Melodys green beans.
Glenn is survived by his wifeRose, Children Joyce and Michael Johns of Ft. Worth, TX, Allen and Melva Hawkins of Ponca City, Barbara and David Miller of Chandler, Kathy and Jim Dowler of Newkirk, Terri and Wade Bradley of Burbank and Jimmy and Melody Hawkins of Burbank. 1 BrotherWilford Hawkins of Coeur dAlene, Idaho. 3 Sisters Julia Scott of Enid, OK, Darlene Winters and Esther Criman both of Wichita, KS. 26 Grandchildren and 27 Great Grandchildren. Also a lifelong friend, Neal Long.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm, Monday, May 21, 2012 at the Central Baptist Church of Ponca City, with Pastor John Waterloo officiating. Burial will follow in the Grandview Cemetery of Kaw City.
