Grandview Cemetery

James Jacques
November 26, 1933 - March 9, 2024

James Oliver Jacques, 90, of Whizbang, OK, joined his Lord and Savior on March 9, 2024, surrounded by his family. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at Central Baptist Church in Ponca City, OK, with Pastor John Waterloo officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory, 505 W Grand Ave, Ponca City, OK 74601.

Jim was born on November 26, 1933, to Arthur and Mae Butler Jacques. Jim was the last of four children; Melba, Donna, Arthur, and Jim. He ran the banks of Hay & Salt Creek and could tell you where every rock on the creek bank laid. He started grade school at Whizbang where he majored in sand box (those were his words) and went on to graduate from Shidler High School in 1952. While in high school, Jim was the star lineman of the football team and was offered a college scholarship, but a tragic mishap with some dynamite caps and his left hand changed those plans.

He married his sweet petunia, Peggy June Deason, on February 17, 1958. They raised two daughters, Jan and Deana. 1958 was also the year his father passed, and Jim and his brother, Art, continued to operate the Jacques Brothers Ranch for the next sixty years. Aside from ranching, Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting, and white-water tubing down Salt Creek when the creek got up. He loved his family and grandchildren more than anything.

Jim leaves behind: his wife of 66 years, Peggy; daughters, Jan Jacques, and, Deana Cornish & husband, Richard; grandchildren, Jory Jacques & wife, Kelly, Loren Leathers & husband, Dalton, Jacques O’Connor & wife , Rachel, Kaitlyn Abbott & husband, Sean; great-grandchildren, Liam, Noah, Kade, and Carly; and great-Great grandchildren Dahlia and Holton.

Jim took his first and last breath in the same room of the house he lived his entire life. He said on several occasions how it was just starting to feel like home and how God had given he and Peggy such a good life. The family would like to give a special thank you to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma. Without the support and care we received from Ellen, Sharyn, Melissa, Dr. Allen, and all of those working behind the scenes, we would not have been able to honor his wish of spending his final days in his home.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions in Jim’s name be made to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, 445 Fairview, Ponca City, Oklahoma 74601.
