Wayne Austin Shoffner of Braman, Oklahoma, died June 22, 2017, at his residence at the age of 93 years.
Wayne Austin Shoffner was born on September 5, 1923, in Blackwell, Oklahoma, to Isaac Franklin and Mary Lenice (Austin) Shoffner. He attended Braman Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1940. He was a member of the United States Army and served from 1946 to 1947 in the Army of Occupation in Japan. He married Frances Louise Basford on September 29, 1948, in Blackwell, Oklahoma. He was a lifetime farmer and farmed with his brother, Bill, for over 60 years. Wayne loved to raise tomatoes from seed and often shared them with neighbors and family. He liked animals, especially his dogs, and was a fan of both OU and OSU football teams and the St. Louis Cardinals. He was a proud father and grandfather and loved going to his children and grandchildren’s activities. His children and grandchildren always knew that he loved them, and learned integrity, honesty, generosity and work ethic from his example.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Frances, of Braman; four children, Richard Shoffner and wife Kathy of Wichita, Kansas, Carol Southern and husband Fred of Midwest City, Oklahoma, Don Shoffner of Blackwell, Oklahoma, and Ron Shoffner and wife Kim of Braman, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Ashley Cochenour of Edmond, Oklahoma, Whitney McMahon and husband J.J. of Edmond, Oklahoma, Bron Shoffner and wife Kalyn of Piedmont, Oklahoma, Alana Shoffner of Wichita, Kansas, Rochelle Shoffner of West Hollywood, California, and Stephen Shoffner of Lawrence, Kansas; four great grandchildren, Caden McMahon, Maddex McMahon, Adelyn Cochenour and Sloane Shoffner; and his dog pal Ziggy. , He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Vernon Dale, Harold and Bill.
Memorial services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., June 30, 2017, at the Church of Christ, Blackwell, Oklahoma, with Lanny Jobe officiating. Burial will follow at the Braman Cemetery.
Honorary bearers will be Bob Field, Gerald Oard, Jim Hiatt, Bob Arnold, Jim Curl, Jerry Frieouf, Tom Prather, Lonnie Ingram, and Garrett Haskins.
Visitation is scheduled from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, June 29, 2017, at Roberts and Son Funeral Home.
