Billy Gene Shoffner of Braman, Oklahoma, died early Thursday morning, September 17, 2009, in the Blackwell Regional Hospital in Blackwell, Oklahoma, at the age of 87 years.
Billy Gene Shoffner was born on June 25, 1922, in Renfro, Oklahoma, to Isaac Franklin and Mary Lenice (Austin) Shoffner. As a young boy he moved with his family to Braman, Oklahoma, where he grew up attending Braman Public Schools graduating in 1939. Following his education he began working for Cessna Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas. He entered the United States Air Force serving for three years during World War II. Following his discharge he returned to work for Cessna during the winter months and farmed during the summer months. He married Phyllis Jean Brown on March 14, 1959, in Oxford, Kansas, and they settled on the farm east of Braman. He retired from Cessna in the mid 1970’s and continued his farming operation until the time of his death. He was a member of the Blackwell Church of Christ. Farming was not only his work but his hobby.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Shoffner of Braman, Oklahoma; three daughters, Rena Jean Parcher and husband Carl of Braman, Oklahoma, Dana Jean Richards and husband Dana of Braman, Oklahoma, and Suzy Jean Ingram and husband Lonnie of South Haven, Kansas; a brother, Wayne Shoffner and wife Frances of Braman, Oklahoma; twelve grandchildren, Matthew Parcher of Yuba City, California, Christopher Parcher of Salina, Kansas, Jacob Parcher of Tonkawa, Oklahoma, Bradly Ingram of Ponca City, Oklahoma, Steven Ingram of South Haven, Kansas, Patrick Ingram of South Haven, Kansas, Jared Richards of Braman, Oklahoma, Nicholas Ingram of South Haven, Kansas, Ryan Ingram of South Haven, Kansas, Jonathan Richards of Braman, Oklahoma, Jordyn Richards of Tonkawa, Oklahoma, and Erikah Parcher of Braman, Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Harold and Vernon Dale Shoffner.
Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Monday, September 21st in the Blackwell Church of Christ with Lanny Jobe of the Blackwell Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow in the Braman Cemetery in Braman, Oklahoma. Military rites will be presented by the Blackwell American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Honorary casketbearers will be Nicholas Ingram, Ryan Ingram, Jonathan Richards, Jordyn Richards and Erikah Parcher. Serving as casketbearers will be Matthew Parcher, Christopher Parcher, Jacob Parcher, Bradly Ingram, Steven Ingram, Patrick Ingram and Jared Richards.
