October 8, 1951 - November 30, 2001

Charles Frederick Fields, of Ponca City, died Nov. 30, 2001, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. He was 50.

The funeral will be held 2 p.m., Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, at Brookfield Avenue Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Mark Busch officiating. Burial will follow at Braman Cemetery under the direction of Trout Funeral Home.

Charley was born in Enid on Oct. 8, 1951, the son of Charley and Dorothy Druen Fields. He was raised in Enid and graduated from high school there in 1969. He was then drafted into the United States Army and served as a military policeman in Korea.

Following his honorable discharge in 1972, he went on to work at Hackney Iron and Steel in Enid. While living in Enid, he met and married Darlene Meyer where they stayed for a short time. The couple then moved to the Kildare area, and Charley worked at Owens Illinois Can Company as a maintenance man.

In 1980, he worked as an oilrig mechanic overseas to the Far and Middle East. He then bought a farm east of Ponca City.

In 1991, he joined the local 627 operating engineers and went to work for NCI construction as a crane operator and heavy equipment mechanic. In 1995 he went to work for J.H. Kelly LLC where he worked as a crane operator foreman and safety instructor.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding his gold wing motorcycle, but, most of all, spending time with his wife of 27 years.

He is survived by his loving wife, Darlene; son, Chuck (Tracy) Fields, Norfolk, Va., two daughters, Lori Dorsey and Lacy (Brian) St. Andrews, both of Ponca City; grandchildren, Jessica and Jillian Fields, Colby Dorsey, Trinity St. Andrews; three sisters, Jenny Week of Prairie City, S.D., Kathleen Fields, and Sara Wallen, both of Bartlesville; and a host of other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial donations may be made in Charley's name to Brookfield Avenue Wesleyan Church, 303 E. Brookfield, Ponca City, Okla. 74601.
