Milo Owen Day was born on September 23, 1929, to E. F. “Pete” and Maurita (Orr) Day. He and his younger sister, Elvena Forbeck, spent their childhood on the family’s farm three miles north of Braman. Upon graduating from Braman High School in 1947, he went to work for Shell Pipeline where he climbed electric poles throughout the hills of Missouri, later claiming to have had poison ivy that whole summer. Later, he returned home to the farm and met Betty Rowan of Wellington, Kansas. They were married on February 11, 1950 and celebrated nearly sixty-seven years together before her passing in 2017.
He worked hard on the farm, but he played hard too. His favorite pastime was indisputably bird hunting and shooting clay targets in which he made numerous lifetime friends and won many trophies throughout several states. He was a longtime member of the Grand National Quail Club in Enid. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family at the lake, from taking his son Craig water skiing at Blackwell Lake to pulling his grandkids on skis for hours at a time on Grand Lake. Milo was a life-long devoted member of the Church of Christ at Braman and later the Blackwell Church of Christ.
He passed away peacefully in his home near Braman, Friday, November 13, 2020, following a short illness at the age of 91 years. He is survived by his son, Craig Day and wife Linda of Braman; along with his loving grandchildren and great grandchildren all of Braman. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Tommy Forbeck of Geuda Springs, Kansas.
A public graveside service is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, November 17th in the Braman Cemetery with Lanny Jobe of the Blackwell Church of Christ officiating. A private family church service will be held that morning and be available for viewing on the church social media page at a later date.
In honor of family and friendships, Lee Day, L. K. Giger, Howard Strickland, Charles Kaupke, Curtis Lathers, Ronnie VanZant, Jimmie VanZant, Paul Regier, Roger Jack, Robert Kelle and Victor Crook will serve as honorary casketbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Blackwell Church of Christ, the Van Fund at the Blackwell Church of Christ, or Hospice of North Central Oklahoma.
