Roger Alan Woods of Ponca City, Oklahoma, died Wednesday, December 16, 2021, in the Post Acute Medical Specialty Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 78 years.

Roger Alan Woods was born on May 12, 1943, in Blackwell, Oklahoma, to Jess Alan and Gladys Ann (Wilson) Woods. He attended Blackwell Public Schools graduating from Blackwell High School in 1961. He married Irma Faye Courtney on May 1, 1964, in Blackwell and they settled in Oklahoma City. They later returned to Blackwell before moving to Ponca City where he worked as a Sr. Research Technician for Conoco-Phillips. He retired in 1996 and they continued to make Ponca City their home. He enjoyed playing golf and softball, fishing, and reading. His greatest love was watching the grandkids and great grandkids play ball.

He is survived by his wife, Irma Woods of Ponca City; a sister, Dee Herde of Kaw City; four daughters, Denise Godfrey and husband Lee of Claremore, Cathy Schieber and husband Shane of Goshen, Indiana, Dawna Wolverton of Ponca City; and Diana Moss and husband Clint of Perry; twenty-three grandchildren; and nineteen great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Gladys Woods; a sister, Nancy Challis; and his mother and father-in-law, Jack and Doris Courtney.

Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 21st in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Waterloo of Central Baptist Church in Ponca City officiating. Burial will follow in the Braman Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be T. J. Rice, Joseph Rice, Blake Woods, Trae Moss, Russell Spillman and Brandon Hudson. Serving as honorary casketbearers will be James Wolverton, Ryan Schieber, John Jacob Van Lehn, Jeff Greer, Alan Schieber and Josh Godfrey.

A memorial has been established in his honor with the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for Diabetes Research in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
