U. S. veteran Oliver Dale Northup, 71, of Guthrie, OK went to be with our Lord on July 14, 2010. He was born October 20, 1938 in Blackwell, OK to Doris (Oliver) and Raymond Northup.
January 14, 1995, Dale married his soul mate and love of his life Linda Faylor Crabtree. He enjoyed his time with friends and family at countless get-togethers, parties, and his favorite holiday, Thanksgiving. Dale never knew a stranger. Dale and Linda had a multitude of friends with whom they enjoyed laughter and countless adventures.
Dale served in the U.S. Marines from 1956 to 1959, earning the rank of Corporal (E-4) and a Good Conduct Medal. In 1971 he started Northup Auto Parts and Machine, a NAPA franchise, eventually operating two stores in the Logan County area. He participated and served on numerous professional and community boards. He was also very involved with the First United Presbyterian Church in Guthrie, serving as Sunday School teacher, Elder, and Deacon.
Dale loved visiting and enjoying special time with his grandchildren Amber, Holly, Myka, Mason, Chris, Jacob, Lydia, Isaac, Abby, Bryce, and Peyton.
Dale is survived by his wife Linda Northup, children Jeff (Pam), Keith (Keely), Becky all of Guthrie, Kim Thompson (Mark) of St. Paul, MN, and Julie Walters (Mike) of Franklin, KY, his older sister Dalores Smith of Shawnee, OK, first wife Janet Roberson of Edmond, OK, and countless nieces, nephews, and friends.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, July 17, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Presbyterian Church, Guthrie. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Presbyterian Church Kitchen Fund, 102 East Noble Avenue, Guthrie, OK 73044 or God’s Food Bank, 402 West Vilas Avenue, Guthrie, OK 73044.
