Vera Julia Neal was born on February 14, 1921, in Douglas, Oklahoma, to Samuel C. and Jane Dell (Rothrock) Avery. As a small girl she moved with her family to Peckham where she attended Peckham School and Blackwell High School graduating in 1939. While in Blackwell she met and married Carl William Neal on March 1, 1940, in Newkirk and they settled in Lexington, Oklahoma. In 1941 they returned to Blackwell for a short time before moving to Norman where she worked for Douglas Aircraft during World War II. In 1945 they moved to Peckham where they operated their farm. In 1949 they moved to a farm north of Peckham and lived there until 1997 when they moved to Ponca City. Her husband preceded her in death on December 17, 2000, and she continued to make Ponca City her home. She was a member of the Peckham Christian Church and the Christian Women’s Fellowship. She enjoyed animals, plants, playing cards and visiting with friends and family.
She is survived by two daughters, Beverly Ann Pedigo and husband David of Ponca City and Carla Sue Sattre and husband Tom of Ponca City; a son, Herbert William Neal and wife Tobie of Ponca City; a brother, Davie Lee Avery of Newkirk, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Kevin Harris, Chris and Stephanie Neal, Rob and Nikki Bandy, Jerry and April Adams, Carl Pedigo, Gary and Tina Oswalt, Ryan and Stacy Sattre, and Craig and Stephanie Sattre; great grandchildren, Travis Harris, Britnie, Christian and Logan Neal, Catalina, Pennelope, Roman and Royal Bandy, Amber, Alexandria and Autumn Leist, Nickolas Cramer, Caylee Oswalt, and Breonna Sattre; and great great grandchild, Kyler W. Harris.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Mary Neal; a son, Carl Neal Jr.; a sister, Ellen Parrish; and three brothers, Roy and Clyde Avery and an infant brother.
Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 21st, in the Peckham Christian Church with James W. Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
Honorary Casketbearers will be the grandchildren and great grandchildren of Vera Neal. Casketbearers will be Daryl Pedigo, Rick Sattre, Bernard Brown, Clifford Honick, Martin Trenary and Ray Whiting.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Peckham Christian Church of Faith Hospice of Blackwell in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home.
