May 23, 1931 - July 3, 2020

JoAnn Nave, our beloved mother, grandmother and sister, left us on Friday, July 3, 2020 at age 89. We mourn her passing but celebrate the life that she left behind.

JoAnn was born May 23, 1931 in Hobart, Oklahoma. She enjoyed telling of her life there and many years spent in Blackwell, Oklahoma. In 1968, JoAnn moved with her daughter Cynthia to Houston, Texas. It was in Houston that she spent the remainder of her professional life as a secretary. JoAnn was proud to have worked many years at Conoco and Leisure Management and to have been a part of the success of those companies. She enjoyed traveling and histories and especially collecting her family’s genealogy. With a fine hand JoAnn loved to crochet, embroider and sew, but her finest works are the family quilts that are cherished by all of us.

In her retirement, she moved to Alvin, Texas to be near her daughter and grandchildren. It was with Cynthia that she spent her final years in joy and happiness. Her home was a favorite retreat for her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

JoAnn Nave is preceded in death by her parents, Wyatt and Vivian Barnett and brothers, Jack and Bill Barnett.

JoAnn Nave is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cindy & Gary Simmons; her brother and sister David and Linda Barnett; grandchildren and their spouses, J.J. & Kim McCord, Amanda & Rich Dalton, Marie Shaddix, Jacob & Jessica Simmons and Hannah Ashwander; great-grandchildren, Hailey & Joseph McCord, Tyler & Sierra Dalton, Raider, Ryleigh, Rody & Ethan Shaddix, Chris Newberry, Braelyn & Alaric Simmons, and Abigail Ashwander; along with numerous other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 PM Thursday, July 9, 2020 at Scott Funeral Home in Alvin, Texas. Graveside Services will held at 2:00 PM Saturday, July 11, 2020 at Blackwell Cemetery in Blackwell, Oklahoma.
