Janet Lee Haymaker of Ponca City, Oklahoma, died early Wednesday morning, October 16, 2019, in the Alliance Health in Ponca City at the age of 86 years.
Janet Lee (Smyth) Haymaker was born on November 13, 1932, in Kingman, Kansas. Her parents were L. C. “Pete” and Opal (Wood) Anderson. She grew up in Blackwell and attended Blackwell Public Schools graduating with the Class of 1950. She furthered her education by attending Northern Oklahoma Junior College in Tonkawa. Following her education she worked at S. H. Kress, Montgomery Ward and Zook Wholesale. In April of 1954, she began working for Kay Electric Cooperative as a cashier and she worked there for over thirty-five years, retiring in February of 1990 as office manager. She also served as interim manager for five months during 1986. She served a president of the Oklahoma Accountants Association and past member of the American Business Women’s Association. She also served in civic work serving as accountant for the Blackwell Rural Water Board for many years.
She married James Eldon Haymaker on July 21, 1951, in Blackwell and they made Blackwell their home. After forty eight years of marriage, he preceded her in death on August 27, 1997.
Early in their marriage they enjoyed participating in square dances and served as officers in the Local square dance clubs. They also loved to travel with their camping club throughout the United States.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Blackwell. Her greatest joy was creating memories and celebrating with her family, especially her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandson at various holiday and birthday times.
She is survived by her son, Tim Haymaker and wife Lesa of Ponca City; two granddaughters, Cherody Janda of Ponca City, and Tiffany McBrain and husband Craig of Stillwater; five great grandchildren, Braeley Durham and husband Kurtis of Ponca City, Brexten and Brensen Janda of Ponca City; Riley, Harper and Kinley McBrain of Stillwater; and a great great grandson, Camden Durham of Ponca City.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Max Anderson.
At her request she was cremated and a private family service will be held in the Blackwell Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in her honor with the First Baptist Church in Blackwell in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
