ENID, OK — Patricia Louise Gillespie formerly of Blackwell, Oklahoma,
died on August 22, 2013, at the Oklahoma Methodist Manor in Tulsa, Oklahoma,
at the age of 90 years.
Patricia Louise Gillespie was born on March 2, 1923, in Winfield, Kansas.
She was the daughter of Aubrey A. and Marie (Schultz) Hart. She moved with
her family at an early age to Blackwell where she attended Blackwell Public
Schools, graduating from Blackwell High School in 1941.
Following her education, she married Leo Verdun Gillespie on February 2,
1943, in Chandler, Arizona, and they moved to various Air Force Bases while
he served his country in the United States Air Force.
Following his discharge, they moved back to Blackwell where she served her
family as a homemaker. During their marriage they moved to various towns
including Ponca City, Oklahoma, then settling in Enid, Oklahoma, in 1985.
On December 16, 1988, he preceded her in death and she continued to make
Enid her home until August of 2012, when she moved to Tulsa to be near her
daughter Lana. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Enid.
She enjoyed dancing, going to parties, sewing, cooking and knitting.
She also loved spending time with her family and friends and those that knew
her said she had the warmest smile, and was very compassionate and caring.
Later in life, she became a nanny for a family in Enid, where she helped
take care of their two children, Alexis and Elizabeth Knox.
She is survived by two daughters, Lana Kern and husband Kim of Tulsa,
Oklahoma, and Joyce Hart of Burbank, California; a grandson, J. D. Kern of
Nashville, Tennessee; three great-grandchildren, Rex, Sterling and Remy Kern
of Nashville, Tennessee; and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 27, in the Roberts and
Son Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mark Simpson of Tulsa, Oklahoma,
officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in her memory with the Oklahoma Medical
Research Foundation for cancer research in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home,
120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma, 74631.
