Dean Francis Engle
June 25, 1935 - March 5, 2025
Dean Francis Engle of Blackwell, Oklahoma, passed away late Wednesday evening, March 5, 2025, in the Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home at the age of 89 years.
Dean F. Engle was born on June 25, 1935, in Hardy, Oklahoma, to Olland and Dorothy Engle. He grew up attending Newkirk Public Schools and graduated from Newkirk High School in 1954. Following his education he married Alverna Sue Sanger on February 5, 1955, in Blackwell and the couple settled in Blackwell. He worked for the Sante Fe Railroad for several years before joining the City of Blackwell Fire Department where he served as a Captain. Following his civil service he worked as a carpenter and cabinet maker. His wife preceded him in death on March 3, 2018, and he continued to make Blackwell his home. He enjoyed working and immersed himself in his various projects.
He is survived by a son, Rick Engle of Wakita, Oklahoma; a sister, Darlene Roberts of Newcastle, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Cory Engle and wife Jessica of Blackwell and Kristin English and husband Rodney of Krum, Texas; and four great grandchildren, Caitlyn, Courtney, Makayla and Lincoln.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, and four sisters.
A graveside service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 11th in the Blackwell Cemetery with Hospice chaplain Justin Pickup officiating.
A memorial has been established in his honor with Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, 445 Fairview, Ponca City, Oklahoma 74601.
