Dennis Day Becomes 8th Viet Death
Dennis Day, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe E. Day, 2101 South Fourth, missin in action off Vietnam for about a year, has officially been declared dead.
Word was received from the government last week, and memorial and graveside rites are set Wednesday at the Church of Christ and the IOOF cemetery.
Bill Hamridge will officiate and the graveside rite will be complete with full military rites. Tom Shouse, Gary Beard, Mike Hankla and Ronnie Smith will be honorary pallbearers.
Young day, 19 at the time he was lost, was on an ammunition barge off the coast of Vietnam in the South China Sea when high winds sunk the vessel with all 13 honds aboard lost. Only one body was recovered.
He had been overseas a year and in Vietnam and area about four months. He was in the U.S. Army. He was born in Blackwell and graduated from B.H.S. shortly before entering service.
