Ida Barnes of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Thursday, October 22, 2009, at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas, at the age of 81 years.
Ida Mae Barnes was born on October 25, 1927. She was the daughter of Elijah and Mamie (Randolph) Yeager. She grew up in Kaw City, Oklahoma, where she attended school Kaw City Public Schools and graduating from Kaw City High School. She then married Fred Wood in 1946, to this union five children were born; Linda, David Cleo, Stanley, Stephen, and Jerry. On May 21, 1966, she married Hessie Barnes in Stigler, Oklahoma, and they made their home in Blackwell for several years where she worked for Harvey’s Grocery and Bob’s Grill. On March 29, 1996, Hessie preceded her in death and she continued to make Blackwell her home.
She is survived by one daughter, Linda McDonald and husband Lenard of Tonkawa, Oklahoma; two sons, Stanley Wood and wife Linda of Blackwell, Oklahoma, and Stephen Wood and wife Peggy of Blackwell, Oklahoma; one brother, Dixen Yeager of Blackwell, Oklahoma; one daughter in law, Fleta Wood of Georgia; one sister, Mary Pappan of Newkirk, Oklahoma; seventeen grandchildren; forty three great grandchildren; and ten great great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Jerry Wood, and David Cleo Wood; two grandchildren; and numerous sisters, and brothers.
Services are set for Monday, 2:00 p.m. October 26, 2009, at the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kevin Bookout officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
Casketbearers are Brian Wood, Willie Wood, Bruce Wood, Jeff Combs, William Vannoy, and Wesley Vannoy. Telford Wood will serve as honorary casketbearer.
A memorial has been established at the First Freewill Baptist Church in memory of Ida Mae Barnes.
