Glen Kelly Beard
November 11, 1953 - October 11, 2024
Glen Kelly Beard went home to be with the Lord on October 11, 2024, at his residence. He was only 70 years old. The family is deeply saddened and shocked by his sudden death.
Glen was born on November 11, 1953, in Blackwell to Robert and Opal Beard. He grew up in Blackwell and attended Blackwell Public School. On June 14, 1971, he married the love of his life, Anna Pratt. They went on to be married for 53 years.
Glen worked at Speed King for 18 years, Starr Lumber for two years, then went on to work at I.O.O.F Blackwell Cemetery for many years where he enjoyed assisting those during the vulnerable moments in their lives and made lifelong connections and friends. Even after he retired, he was always willing to lend a helping hand.
Glen was an artist and loved woodworking and making things with his hands. He spent decades teaching the youth group and running the sound board at the First Church of the Nazarene where he is a member.
Glen was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, cousin, friend, and most of all Blue & Silver wearing, smack talking, always cheering, Sunday loving, football watching Dallas Cowboys fan! Along with being a diehard Cowboys and OU fan, Glen was always reminding his family and encouraging them about a faithful walk with Jesus. Glen loved it when family gathered for monthly birthday celebrations, and holidays at their home. He has always enjoyed a full house and making his daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren smile by passing out the presents at Christmas! It was a highlight for him even through the aches and pains that life has brought him through the years of hard work. They all brought him so much joy and happiness.
While our hearts mourn the loss, we take comfort in knowing that Glen is with the Lord and seeing his deceased family members again. He has been a great friend to so many throughout the years. He has never met a stranger and has been known to bring one into his home to live with them. Glen made it a point to check up on his family & friends, he would call and show up to visit with them often. He really enjoyed his weekly NFL picks with his family during football season. There is so much more to Glen than meets the eye. From being a man that would stand up for those less fortunate or someone that was being bullied by others, stand-in paternal figure to the fatherless, and a hard-working handyman, the list goes on.
He was preceded to heaven by his Father and Mother, Robert and Opal Beard, Daughter, LaVonda Beard, Father-in-law, A.C. Pratt, Brother-in-law, Verlin Pratt, Siblings, Ronny Beard, Gary Beard, Patsy Beard, Mary (Beard) Glass, three Nephews J.D. Beard, Kenny Beard Jr., and Kenneth Taylor, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was survived by his Wife, Anna Beard of Blackwell, Daughters, Christy (Beard) Johnston and her husband Matt Johnston of Nardin, Kelly (Beard) McLain and her husband Nate McLain of Huffman, TX, Anna (Beard) Kelly and her husband Bobby Kelly of Blackwell, Son by heart, Matt Fish of Blackwell, seven Grandkids, Steven Johnston and his wife Amanda Johnston of Blackwell, Mitchael McLain and his wife Emily McLain of Crosby, TX, Trent Johnston and wife Kaitlin Johnston of Blackwell, Kleigh McLain of Huffman, TX, Allee Johnston of Blackwell, Wesson Kelly of Blackwell, and Huntlee Kelly of Blackwell, seven Great-Grandkids, Aiden Johnston, Jasen Johnston, Braxten Johnston, Brooklyn Johnston, Austen Johnston, Madison Johnston, and Reed McLain, Siblings, Kenny Beard, Sherry (Beard) Taylor, Jimmy Beard, Butch Beard, Sue (Beard) Ward, Niece, Desiree Honeycutt, and many more loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
