Dewey “Wayne” Staggs was born in Wapanucka, Oklahoma on January 23, 1949 to Dewey Lester & Cora Frances Slack Staggs. He was the “baby” of fourteen children born to that family. He loved his mama and she loved him. Growing up the baby of this farming family, he was a little spoiled. He grew up cutting up in school, always trying to get a laugh from everyone. He graduated from Wapanucka High School in 1967. He was always looking for good times, and ready to spend time with friends. As he matured, work became very important. He worked on pipelines, owned & operated the Wapanucka Game Club and made custom knives. He loved what he did for a living and always felt blessed to be able to work at home doing what he loved. He loved his work, but lived for his family.

He married the only woman he ever loved on June 3, 1974, Martha Suzanne Telford and became a loving step-father to Suzanne Lee Costiloe. He cared for Martha and provided for her unfailing, always going above and beyond to keep his family safe & happy. After four years of marriage, his “baby daughter”, Ginny Lynn Staggs was born, who quickly became the light of his life. Suzanne, married to Jerry Johnson, has two sons, Rance Dalton Wheeler, 16 and Jayton Lee Johnson, 5. Rance came to live with Pada & Mada when he was eight and Pada was so happy to have him there. Ginny,, married to Jason Deaton, has one daughter, Presley Patience, 8, and one son, Bo Shooter, 2. Ginny and her family live across the road from Pada & Mada in a house that Wayne helped build. He enjoyed his grand babies so much. He was always willing to help in any way. He offered what he had before anyone had to ask him. Wayne had a personal relationship with the Lord that grew everyday and was baptized at Wilson Baptist Church. Wayne enjoyed telling jokes and making people laugh & feel good. He passed away at OU Medical Center in OKC due to complications during surgery in the early morning of February 19th. He had one brother, Gene & wife Wanda of Balch Springs, TX; a sister, Dot & husband Kenneth of Mesquite, TX; two sisters from Wapanucka, Bonnie Wallis & Polly Nall.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ruban, Willie Earl, Lonnie, Jeff, Bobby, and Jerry; sisters, Connie Staggs, Donnie Lomax and Ann Woods.
