Interment to follow at Troy Cemetery.
Norma Jean Shackleford passed peacefully at home in Uvalde, Texas on March 9, 2019 at the age of 91. Norma Jean was born on February 12, 1928 in Troy, Oklahoma to John and Dixie Miller as one of ten children. In 1946, she met and married Thurman Shackleford in Tishomingo, Oklahoma. In 1957, they moved with their three children to Uvalde, Texas, where they have remained for 62 years. She retired from the Uvalde school district after many years of service. Norma Jean was a faithful member of Getty Street Church of Christ for 62 years. One of her greatest joys was bringing her family together for lunch every Sunday after church. Attended by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many friends, these lunches were a time of fellowship and love.
Norma Jean was preceded in death by her parents and all nine siblings.
She is survived by her husband of 72 years, one daughter Elizabeth (Derk) Barton and son Bob (Anne) Shackleford of Uvalde and son Ronnie (Renee) Shackleford of Mill Creek, Oklahoma. She is also survived by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Ingrid (Doug) Postert and children Nicholas, Katrianna, Breanna and Jake; Brad Shackleford; Mark (Terry Jo) Shackleford and children Owen, Katherine and Tyson; Bryan Shackleford; Mindy (James) Butler and children Deirdre and Emma; Michael Barton; Britta (Bren) Hildebrand and children Bailey, Morgan and Bella; and Monty (Rachel) Barton.
Norma Jean was a lifelong servant of Christ whose loving and giving spirit touched the lives of all those who knew her. Our precious wife, mom, grandma and great-grandma will be greatly missed by all.
