Funeral Services for Mrs. Hazel R. Thomas, 94, longtime
resident of Tishomingo, Oklahoma will be held on Saturday, September 29th, 2012
at 10:00 a. m. at the First Baptist Church in Tishomingo with Rev. Kenneth
McCarthick officiating, assisted by Rev. Luke Holmes. Interment will follow in
the Tishomingo Cemetery. Mrs. Thomas passed away on Thursday, September 27th, at
her home.
Hazel was born on March 2nd, 1918 in Tishomingo to S. M. Maxwell and Maggie Lela
(Thompson) Maxwell. She graduated from Tishomingo High School in 1935 and later
married William J. "Bill" Thomas on August 12th, 1937. They lived in Texas for a
short time and returned to Johnston County in 1945. Mrs. Thomas worked for
several years as a telephone operator in Tishomingo and for Murray State College
as a clerk in the business office from 1963 until 1979. She retired at that time
and was a very active member of the First Baptist Church and of the Holisso
Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Billy Mack Thomas and a
granddaughter, Kelly Thomas.
Mrs. Thomas is survived by her husband Bill, of the home; her daughter, Debbie
Wood and husband Larry of Tishomingo; her grandson, Landon Wood and wife Brooke
of Sulphur, Oklahoma; two granddaughters, Whitney Daniels and husband Chase and
Tiffany Atteberry and husband Colin, all of Tishomingo; her great-grandchildreen,
Brock & Brody Daniels and Drake & Nate Wood; her sister, Wanda McCathern of
Palmetto, Florida; her daughter-in-law, Linda Thomas of Edmond, Oklahoma;
numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
Pallbearers for the service will be: Clayton Pryor, Donnie Rowland, Rex Lokey,
Vernon Hurst, Edd Clary, Bill McCullough,Delbert Gray and Alvin McCarthick.
Honorary Bearers will be: Landon Wood, Chase Daniels, Colin Atteberry, Larry
Wood, Jack Niblett, Donnie Young, Ronnie Coppedge and Ron Maxwell.
