Funeral Services for Mr. Opal E. Nix, 87, of Tishomingo,
Oklahoma will be held on Thursday, April 26th, 2012 in the Calvary Baptist
Church with Rev. Keith Jacobs officiating, assisted by Dr. Rex Clayton.
Interment will follow in the Tishomingo Cemetery with Military Honors provided
by the Chickasaw Nation Honor Guard. Mr. Nix passed away on April 23rd, at the
Mercy Hospital in Tishomingo.
Opal was born on January 10th, 1925 in Broken Bow, Oklahoma to Marion E. Nix and
Maudie Beatrice (Cox) Nix. He grew up there and later served in the United
States Army during WWII and afterward the Korean Conflict, where he received two
Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star for combat. After his honorable discharge, he
married Robbie Studdard on May 27th, 1954 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. They lived
in Broken Bow and Oklahoma City before moving to Johnston County in 1961. Opal
owned and operated the Eastside Grocery for several years , but spent most if
his time as a local barber. He attended the Calvary Baptist Church and had been
a member of the V. F. W. Post #4869 and the American Legion Post #164 in
Tishomingo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Terry Gene Nix; two sisters, Iva
Beam and Cora Peterson; a brother, Marion Mix and a half-brother, Carl Shaffer.
Mr. Nix is survived by his wife Robbie, of the home; his son, Gary Nix and wife
Betty of Tishomingo; his daughter, Anita Brackett and husband Andy of Cleveland,
Georgia; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and two
great-great-grandchildren.
