Clark Funeral Service

Funeral Services for Mrs. Vada A. Gilbert, 88, of Tishomingo, will be held on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the Church of the Nazarene in Tishomingo with Rev. Dick Sowder officiating, assisted by Rev. Kenneth McCarthick. Interment will follow in the Tishomingo Cemetery. Mrs. Gilbert passed away on Friday, February 26th, at the Hillcrest Care Center.

Vada Alain Gilbert was born on October 22, 1921 in Alex, Oklahoma to Carl Bert Hornberger and Lettie Ruth Brock Hornberger. She lived in Alex for the first few years and in Oklahoma City for a few years, but has been a resident of Johnston County most of her life. She married Paul Gilbert on November 19, 1938 in Tishomingo, and he preceded her in death when he was killed in action on November 22, 1944 while serving with the United States Armed Forces during WWII in France. Mrs. Gilbert was a homemaker and very accomplished at quilt making. She was also a longtime member of the Church of the Nazarene. She passed away on Friday, February 26th at the Hillcrest Care Center at the age of 88 years, 3 months and 5 days.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Ethel Jarman and Mary Freeman; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harrison & Alyne Gilbert and her father-in-law, Jenkins Gilbert.

Mrs. Gilbert is survived by two sons & daughters-in-law, Milton & Twylia Gilbert of Tishomingo, and Otis & Retta Gilbert of Konawa; her daughter & son-in-law, Paula & Joe Elrod of Tishomingo; grandchildren & their spouses, Clendon Gilbert of Tishomingo, Paul & Crystal Gilbert of Tishomingo, Gayle & Steve Cellum of Tishomingo, Marnie & Michael Skouby of Perry, Marci Sneed and of Tishomingo; great-grandchildren, Devon Gilbert, Jaylon Sneed, Justin & Stevy Cellum, Brittany & Daria Gilbert, Michael Anne & Caleb Skouby; Her brothers & sisters-in-law, Edward & Evie Hornberger of Campbell, Texas, Ralph & Velma Hornberger of Canadian, Texas and Charles Irven & Lorena Hornberger of Granbury, Texas and very special family friends, Gene & Judy Lafitte of Tishomingo, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers for the service will be: Clendon Gilbert, Paul Gilbert, Steve Cellum. Michael Skouby and Justin Cellum. Honorary Bearers will be: Bob Upton, Jim Umton,S. R. Robinson, Kenneth Robinson, Harmon Clark, Clarke Maxwell, Guy Combes and Elmer Blackburn.
