Interment will follow in the Shady Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Thompson passed away on Tuesday, April 6th, at the Mercy Memorial Health
Center in Ardmore.
Lester was born on April 20, 1933 in Tishomingo to Overton Thompson and Roberta
Love Thompson. After high school he served in the United States Air Force, being
discharged in 1963. He married Jewel Davis on September 23, 1976 in Ardmore and
was a lifelong resident of Johnston County. Mr. Thompson was an entrepreneur.
His first business was Lester’s Paint & Auto Body Shop, where he restored cars.
He eventually opened Lester’s Pawn Shop, the first of it’s kind in Tishomingo.
He was a man of God, a loving husband, a generous father, and a good provider.
He was well known and respected in his community.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Pearl, Trussie Lee and
Rosemary and his brother, Vester.
Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife Jewel, of the home; four daughters, Sharon
Kay Bruce & Dwayne McNeely of Wichita, KS, Pamela Lynn & William Skinner of
Memphis, TN, Diane V. Bruce of Tulsa, OK and Nancy & Mitch Murdock of Wichita,
KS; four step-sons, Anthony & Lynn Davis of Tulsa, Daniel Peavy, Jr. of
Palmdale, CA, Michael R. Bruce, Sr. of Wichita and Christopher & Emma Davis,
also of Wichita; twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; a host
of cousins, nieces, nephews, a large church family and friends.
Pallbearers for the service will be: Ray Gaddis, Ernest Brown, Cornell Gunter,
Claud Williams, Ruvelle Stevenson and William Gunter. Honorary Bearers will be:
Grandsons, Ashton Bruce, Juan Bruce, Michael E. Bruce, Michael R. Bruce, Jr. and
Sam Huff, Jr.; Flower Girls will be: Granddaughters, Roschelle White, Khristina
Standifer, Ashlin Tatum, Morgan Skinner, Lacy Skinner and Teonya Johnson.
