Funeral services for Gladys Marie Pierce Nelson, a longtime Coal County resident, were held Friday, August 14, 2009 at 10:00 p.m. at Clarita Methodist Church with Rev. Buddy Boline officiating.
Burial was in Rosehill Cemetery (Pontotoc County)( correct is Johnston County) with arrangements under the direction of Brown's Funeral Service of Coalgate.
Mrs. Nelson was born February 27, 1920 in Castle, OK to Claud and Lottie Diacon Pierce and passed away August 11,2009 in Coalgate and passed away October 9, 2009 in Coalgate, at the age of 89. She attended school at Hardwood, Olney an attended college at Murray, Southeastern and East Central University, Gladys married Samuel David Nelson on October10, 1945 in Atoka, OK.
He preceded her in death on January 20, 1997.
Mrs. Nelson was a teacher adn taught at Olney, Clarita and Coalgate schools. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Clarita for many years.
Survivors include two sons, Howard Nelson and wife Margaret and Ray Nelson and wife Beth all of Coalgate; sister, Grace Williams of Coalgate; grandchildren, Loren Nelson and wife Angie, Becky Lewis and husband Mike, Randy Nelson and wife Annie and Joe Nelson and wife Becky; great grandchildren, Landra Sue Nelson, Lana Beth Nelson, Wyatt Nelson, Sam Nelson, Hallee Nelson, Mattie Crank, Austin Crank, Sammy Nelson, Logan Ray Nelson, Savannah Reed, and Sydney Lewis; along with numerous friends and other relatives.
