Tishomingo Funeral Home
(permission granted)

Graveside services for Evelyn Kay (Gilbert) Nelson are scheduled for Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at 3:00 pm at Ravia Cemetery with Reverend Jonathan Smith officiating.

Evelyn was born January 4, 1956 in Talihina, Oklahoma to the late Harrison Gilbert and Alyne (Payne) Gilbert.  She left her earthly home on December 12, 2020 at the Chickasaw Nation Medical Center in Ada, Oklahoma. Evelyn married Calvin Nelson Sr in 1976, a union that lasted 48 years until his death in 2019. She was of the Pentecostal faith and was a member of the Church of God in Ravia.  She spent her adult life being a homemaker and raised three sons.  Evelyn enjoyed shopping, driving around looking at the fall foliage with her husband, but most of all, she loved cooking.  According to her sons, she made the best Mexican casserole around.  Evelyn didn't allow anyone in her kitchen to help with cooking although she did let them help with prep work.  She believed in keeping things clean, neat, and orderly. One of her sons "may" have been known to place things out of order to get a reaction from his mother. It certainly didn't go unnoticed by Evelyn. She enjoyed watching Little House on the Prairie, Gunsmoke, and tv evangelists.

Evelyn was preceded in death by both parents, her husband, and brothers, Ernie Gilbert and Brad Gilbert.

She leaves behind to forever cherish her memory, sons, Calvin Nelson Jr of Ada and wife Michelle, Clendon Nelson of Tishomingo, and Quentine Nelson of Tishomingo; sisters, Daisy Benge of Ardmore and Connie Gerard of Ravia; 1 grandchild.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Tishomingo Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at tishomingofuneralhome.com.
