Laura was born Sunday, January 15th, 1950 in Durant to Clayburn and Madeline (Peters) Elix. Laura lived most of her life in Durant. She attended Durant schools and is a graduate of Silo High School. Laura worked for the Choctaw Nation for several years in the mail room. She also was a babysitter for numerous families in Durant taking care of kids. Laura loved OU Football, watching tennis and golf, watching western shows (her favorite is Rawhide), and was interested in aviation. When she was able, she enjoyed playing tennis and was pretty good at it. Laura loved her dog Wes, and cats Missy, Sister, and Tiny. She was a member of the Grace Indian Baptist Church.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents; beloved Chihuahua Ally, sisters Beverly Ghadianloo and Tammy Elix; niece Leigh Long; nephews Todd Long, Vince and Vance Long; and cousin Susie Pistubbee.
Survivors include her sisters Gwenn Elix and Tracey Elix both of Durant; brothers-in-law Thomas Wayne Dewitt and Mike Ghadianloo; first cousins Kathy Steve, Sherran Glinn, Christie Arkansas, Perrin &Tim Deal, Sherri Baer, Candy Canoe, Layah & Chris Tiger, Andrew & Tiger Baer, Erica & Dane Cunningham, Skylar & Jake Flowers, Cheryl Decaire Womack, Kat Decaire Voohees, Shannon Long & Elijah Long.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 9, 2024 at Brown’s Funeral Home chapel with Bro. Bo Tiger officiating.
Interment will follow at Ravia Cemetery in Ravia with Ryan Williston, Tommy Meeley, Brent Angelia, Dock Shoemaker, and Wayne Dewett serving as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations to be made to Breast Cancer Research Foundation at bcrf.org in memory of Laura.
