1925 - - 2015
J. E. "Bo" Burton passed away Friday, May 15, 2015 at the Blue River Healthcare Nursing Home in Tishomingo at the age of 90 years, 1 month, and 3 days.
Bo was born on April 12, 1925 in Marietta, Oklahoma to William Henry Burton and Lelly Mae Hughes.
He attended school in Marietta and at the age of 15 began playing music at the local KMAD radio station for several years.
On January 13, 1951 in Gainesville, Texas Bo married the loved of his life, Zelma Rae Carlisle and made their home in Calisburg.
He worked as a school bus driver and janitor for 45 years for the Ravia Public School System. He also had several other jobs such as, he drove a dump trump in Oklahoma City, and also had a job on the railroad in Argyle, Texas.
In his early years, Bo was an avid coon hunter and trained jumping mules for hunting and was well known throughout the state as a coon hunter.
He was a member of the Coon Hunters Association.
Bo was a music enthusiast and participated and won many fiddle music contests. He could just about play any instrument, but he had a special love for the fiddle and the guitar.
Bo is survived by his wife, Zelma of the home; sons, Dale Burton and wife Lynette of Ravia; James Burton of Ravia; David Burton and wife Penny of Commerce, Texas; daughters, Joye Burton of Milburn, Brenda Lett of Roosevelt,Essie Smith and husband Richard of Grove, Oklahoma and Rosie Duke and husband Jimmy of Mabank, Texas; twenty grandchildren and twenty eight great grandchildren; as well as other relatives and numerous friends.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents; two sisters, "Munks"Rosie Thurman and Viola Buckaloo; and one great grandchild, Tayson Burton.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 18 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ravia Baptist Church with Rev. Frank Wallace officiating, assisted by Sister Kay Williams.
Interment will follow in the Ravia Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
Serving as Pallbearers for the service will be Mr. Burton’s grandsons, Shannon Gibson; Shane, Burton; Clayton Gibson; Jeffery Burton; Trevor Burton; and Beau Duke. Serving as Honorary pallbearers will be, Ray Brooks and Harrison Bond.
Memorial donations may be to the Ravia or the Mannsville Senior Citizens.
