WILLIE LEE BENNETT OBITUARY © Durant Daily Democrat
Services for Willie Lee “Bill” Bennett, 87, Ravia, will be at 2:00 p.m. today at the Westside Church of Christ, Tishomingo, with Stuart Bailey officiating.
Interment will follow in the Ravia Cemetery.
Mr. Bennett passed away Saturday, March 4, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Tishomingo.
Bill was born June 7, 1918, in Hampshire, Tennessee, to H. C. and Claudia Ollie Hudson Bennett.
He married Vi Nell Ayers July 1, 1939, in Tishomingo and celebrated 66 years of marriage in 2005.
He was an employee for the Frisco Railroad for many years during his working career.
He was a lifelong resident of Johnston County and a member of the Westside Church of Christ.
He enjoyed raising a garden as one of his favorite pastimes.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Billie Nell Bennett; brother Edwin Bennett; sisters Cleo Huff and Hazel Williams; and son-in-law Wendell McGehee.
He is survived by his wife of the home; son Benny Bennett and wife Juanita, Durant; daughters Judy McGehee, Ravia; and Glenn Nell Hester and her husband Billy Don, Edmond; brother Maylon “Doc” Bennett, Pontotoc; sister Vera Mae Niemic, New Braunfels, Texas; and Winona Phillips, Pasadena, Texas; grandchildren Gaylia Pickard, Rodney Hester, Rhonda Harrison, Rex Bennett, Stacy Bennett, Shelley McGehee and Gregory McGehee; and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be the grandsons of Mr. Bennett, Rodney Hester, Rex Bennett, Stacy Bennett, Cody Harrison, Jody Harrison, Tim Ware and Gregory McGehee. Honorary pallbearers will be Brandon Bennett, Darrell Pickard, Austin St. Clair, Arthur Carroll, E. A. McGehee, Joed Inman and Hollis Williams.
