A Memorial Graveside Service will be held on Friday, November 20th, 2015 at
11:00 a. m. at the Pontotoc Cemetery for Ms. Hazel Naoma Peters, 100 of Oklahoma
City. Rev. Michael Dye will officiate the service. She passed away on October
25th, 2015 at the Fountains at Canterbury in Oklahoma City. The family selected
cremation for Ms. Peters.
Hazel was born on October 12th, 1915 in Johnston County to Sam Peters and Lena (Boatright)
Peters. She graduated from Tishomingo High School in 1933 and attended Murray
State College. She worked for the United States Government in California during
WWII and later transferred to Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City as a Civil
Servant, retiring in 1975. She never married but was devoted to her parents and
family and was a devout Christian and a life-long member of the First Christian
Church. Ms. Peters was always active in women’s church organizations and at the
time of her death, she was a member of the First Christian Church in Edmond,
Oklahoma. She loved playing cards, board games, and quilting. She was a member
of several quilting organizations and did beautiful work. She also loved
traveling and traveled extensively with her two sisters.
Ms. Peters was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings, Fred Peters,
Mary Gladys Hermes, Edna May Harp and Jim “Frosty” Peters.
She is survived by her niece, Betty Hermes Clement of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, two
nephews, Dick Hermes of Sapulpa and Jim Peters of Oklahoma City.
