Lydia Rae Whitmire, 82, and lifelong resident of Kenefic, OK
was born April 1, 1927 in Kenefic to Houston George and Effie Clara (Johnson)
Markham and passed from this life on January 3, 2010 at her home.
Lydia attended and graduated from Cobb Schools then married James Edward “Eddie”
Whitmire on November 25, 1943 in Durant and they were blessed with three
children. Lydia worked as a cook for the Caddo Schools for many years until her
retirement. She and Eddie were members of the Shepard’s Chapel Church in
Arkansas. Lydia enjoyed traveling, studying her bible, cooking, Dallas Cowboys
and spending time with the loves of her life, her grandchildren. Lydia was a
loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many, and she will
be greatly missed by all who knew and dearly loved her.
Lydia was preceded in death by her husband James “Eddie” Whitmire; daughter
Elaine Whitmire; and parents, Houston and Effie Whitmire.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her children, Kenneth Whitmire and
wife Cathy of Kenefic and George Whihtmire and wife Pam of Durant; brother, J.R.
Markham and wife Marie of Ft. Worth, TX; grandsons, Brett Whitmire, David
Whitmire and wife Gayelyn, Glen Whitmire and wife Mary, Daniel Whitmire and wife
Monica, Chase Whitmire and Benjamin Whitmire; 9 great grandchildren; and other
relatives and a host of friends.
A celebration of Lydia’s life will be held on Wednesday, January 6th, 2:00 PM at
Brown’s Funeral Service Chapel. Bro. Randy Tadlock will officiate.
Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery with Glen Whitmire, Daniel Whitmire,
David Whitmire, Jimmy Markham, William Markham and Bill Junior Markham serving
as pallbearers.
There is no Family Hour scheduled but the Funeral Home will be open from 8 AM -8
PM for viewing.
