George Andrew Whitmire, 61, of Durant was born Tuesday, February 22, 1949 in Folsom, OK to James Edward and Lydia (Markham) Whitmire. He lost his courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, July 15, 2010 in Bonham, TX.

George Andrew was a graduate of Coleman High School and after two years at Southeastern Oklahoma State University he was drafted into the Marine Corp. In 1969. After his return from active duty he returned to Southeastern and received a bachelor’s degree in December 1973, then his master’s degree in 1977. George Andrew taught school in Bennington, McCurtain County, Alvin, TX, Iceland and Italy. He worked for the Department of Defense Schools from 1989 to 2009 as an Educational Technologist Systems Specialist. Along with teaching, he coached baseball, basketball and football. Above all, he loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and truly enjoyed living each day to the fullest.

George Andrew was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Lydia Whitmire.

Those loved ones left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Pamela Whitmire of the home; sons, Glen Whitmire and wife Mary of Coleman, Daniel Whitmire and wife Ramonica of Oklahoma City, Chase and Benjamin Whitmire of Chickasha; step children, Chris and Mandi of Caddo; brother, Kenneth Whitmire and wife Kathy of Kenefic; grandchildren, Mackinzi, Mikael and Olivia; and numerous other relatives.

Services will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at Brown’s Funeral Service Chapel. Rev. Randy Tadlock will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Nida, OK.
