Born in Wichita, Kansas, Jim lived most of his life in Oklahoma City before retiring to Durant, OK 10 years ago. Jim earned a track scholarship, setting records in low and high hurdles while attaining a degree from Wichita State University. He pursued a law degree from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas before becoming a Special Agent of the FBI. During his FBI tenure, Jim was based in Washington, D.C., New Orleans, LA, Jackson, MS, Baltimore, MD and Dover, DE. He later worked for Bell Labs in New Jersey before becoming Southwestern Bell's General Security Manager for Oklahoma, retiring in 1991.
Jim is survived by wife Pat Hervey, daughter Amy and son-in-law Brad Wingfield, all of Durant; daughter Dana Hervey of Tulsa; brother-in-law Keith Stanford of Durant; niece Stacy Stanford Bartley and her husband Michael of Calera, aunts Glennys Tucker and Doris Stearman of Wichita, KS, and many cousins. Other relatives include John and Lynda Fisher of Maine and nephew Bobby Fisher of Connecticut.
Jim was preceded in death by his mother and father, Carl and Marie Hervey, and brother Robert Hervey, an Air Force 1st Lieutenant, all of Wichita, and in-laws Alford and Jo Stanford of Durant.
Funeral services are Tuesday, January 16 at First Christian Church in Durant, followed by a graveside service at Oak Grove Cemetery.
