Billy Bruce Barnes

Billy Barnes, a beloved father, and grandfather, left this earthly life and joined his beloved wife Shannon in Heaven, on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the age of 87.

He was born in Madill, Oklahoma on May 8, 1929 to George Berry and Effie Lee (Purser) Barnes. Billy married the love of his life in Durant, Oklahoma on April 16, 1951.
 

Billy proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War from April 1951 thru October 1956, as an armored tank operator. He worked in the oil fields in Odessa, Texas for approximately ten years before he moved back to Oklahoma. Billy went on to work for Atoka County and he and Shannon raised their family and worked side by side on their ranch.
 

Mr. Barnes is survived by his children, Tina Walker and husband Ronnie of Nida, Oklahoma, Farrell Barnes and wife Jo Dawnna of Alvarado, Texas and Billy Barnes of Claremore, Oklahoma; sister, Oteka (Barnes) Sprague of Georgetown, Texas; cherished grandchildren, Shane Barnes and wife Monica of Mansfield, Texas, Farrah Barnes of Covington, Texas, Tarah McKinney and husband Waylon of Nida, Oklahoma, Tessa Todd and husband Chase of Sulphur, Oklahoma, Adam Barnes and Caitlin of Grapevine, Texas, Ashley Barnes of Sherman, Texas, Nathan Barnes and wife Shelly of Kansas City, Kansas, Rannde Frederick and husband Rob of Durant, Oklahoma and Kara Johnson and husband James of Brookeville, Kentucky; great-grandchildren, Emma, Blake, Andrew, Tenlee, Timber, Channing, Haley, James, Lincoln, Walker, Raegan, Hadassah and Trae.


Mr. Barnes was preceded in death by his parents, George and Effie Barnes; wife, Shannon Barnes (October 5, 2016); brothers, George Barnes and Doyle Barnes; sister, Jan (Barnes) Alsup.
 

The family respectfully request that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the Oak Grove Cemetery Nida, Oklahoma c/o Paula Moore, 2320 Mockingbird Lane, Durant, Oklahoma 74701
 

A graveside service in honor of Billy's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Nida, Oklahoma with Rob Frederick officiating. Pallbearers will be Adam Barnes, Billy Barnes, Chase Todd, Ferrell Barnes, Rob Frederick and Waylon McKinney. Honorary pallbearers will be Nathan Barnes and Shane Barnes.

Lunch and family hour will be directly following the service at the Nida Baptist Church.
