Richard Bert Shropshire, 81, of Cumberland, Oklahoma passed away peacefully on May 8, 2026.

He was born on November 17, 1944, in Robert Lee, Texas to Kenneth Francis and Lillie Mae (Pittman) Shropshire.

Richard was raised in Monahans, Texas before joining the United States Army, serving during the Korean War. Richard was an instrument technician, by trade, that took him on many travels. He married Virginia Lee Morris on September 19, 2019, in Cumberland, Oklahoma. He was a quiet and hardworking man who found joy in the simple things of life. He enjoyed reading, spending time outdoors, and took pride in keeping his yard neat and beautiful. Richard treasured the time spent with his family and will be remembered for his steady presence, kind heart, and the love he had for those closest to him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Shropshire of Cumberland, Oklahoma; his son, Delbert Shropshire and wife Jan; grandchildren Kenny, and wife Shana, Rachel, Ben and wife Elizabeth, all of Mustang, Oklahoma; and the children of his late daughter, Cathy Ann Knight: Richard, Ashley, and Shawn, along with numerous precious great-grandchildren and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Cathy Ann Knight; and one sister, Frances Lucille Hendrix. Richard’s memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
