Funeral Services for Mr. Earl Houston Scribner, 92, of Coleman,
Oklahoma will be held on Sunday, May 3rd, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at the Coleman
Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Fillmore Cemetery. The family will
receive friends on Saturday evening from 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Mr.
Scribner passed away on May 1st, 2015 at the Medical Center of Southeastern
Oklahoma in Durant, Oklahoma.
Earl was born on September 1st, 1922 in Wright City, Oklahoma to James M.
Scribner and Sadie (Chaney) Scribner. He served in the United States Army during
WW II and while in the Armed Forces, married Ella Mae Ryans on January 10th, 1944
in Augusta, Georgia. Earl and Ella lived in Chickasha, Oklahoma for several
years and owned and operated the Scribner Grocery in Coleman from 1965 till
1975. When the store burned during that time, he started the Coleman Fire
Department. Earl worked with heavy equipment in the construction business as his
primary occupation. He and Ella were famous for their dancing together as every
opportunity, for over 41 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, six sisters and a
grandson.
Earl is survived by his wife Ella of the home, his daughter, Velta Cook of the
home, two sons, Junior Scribner and wife Janet of Durant and Earl Wayne "Buddy"
Scribner and wife Helen of Coleman, eight grandchildren, nineteen
great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Serving as Pallbearers will be: Members of the Coleman Fire Department.
