Charles
Wayne Wood was born to John and Ruby (Lamb) Wood near the community of Oil
Center, west of Ada, Oklahoma on July 2, 1940.
He passed away on February 28, 2017 at the Alliance Health Hospital
in Durant, Oklahoma at the age of 76 years, 7 months, and 26 days.
He graduated from Vanoss High School in 1958. He attended Murray State College where he met Yvonne Cole. That was the beginning of the next 59 years of his life.
Charles and Yvonne were married on June 24, 1960. Charles was drafted into the United States Army in July 1963 during the Vietnam Crisis. While Charles was stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Kimberly KaLynn was born. He was discharged from the Army in July 1965 and the family moved to Connerville, started their ranching operation, and Charles began working for the U.S. Conservation Department. In 1972 he began working for Uniroyal Tire Company, which later became Michelin Tire. He worked there until he retired in 1995 and began full-time ranching.
Charles attended the Connerville First Baptist Church before moving to Lake Texoma, where he became active in the Mead Baptist Church . Charles was a 32nd degree Mason and a lifetime member of Pontotoc Lodge #136.
It was while he and Yvonne were preparing for their 50th wedding anniversary that Kim told them she was expecting their first grandbabies (twins). He then started preparing a home near Kingston to be near his grandchildren, Colt and Kate. He spent many hours riding them around Lost Acres on the golf cart and the lake, visiting with friends, feeding the birds, picking up shells, lost lures, etc. He claims credit for teaching Colt to throw a pretty good fishing hook. Kate was more interested in having a picnic with MawMaw's snacks.
He was meticulous about his home and yard. Charles suffered a heart attack in 2003, and a stroke in September 2016. Charles loved spending time with family and friends and he will be missed by all who knew him and loved him.
