Dwight David Stanley, better known as Pa to those who loved him best, was born on July 23, 1947 to Fred and Wilma (Needham) Stanley in Kenefic, OK.

He grew up on Center Hill with his siblings: Fred Wayne, Ellen, Jerry, William, Everett, Edward, Gerald and Howard. His dad passed away when David was just 15 years old. David worked hard to help provide for his family by hauling hay in his Dad’s 1951 Ford truck, which he kept running and working for many years. He graduated from Coleman High School in 1965. He lovingly took care of his mother until she passed. David met his future wife at an early age and tried to beat her at checkers. Not sure how the game turned out, because somehow the checkerboard got turned over before a winner could be declared. They met again years later and decided they could make a go of life together. They were united in marriage on June 2, 1967 in Folsom, OK. Denese was born to them in 1970 and Chad joined the family in 1974. They made their home in Folsom in 1974 after Pa bought a 41-acre plot of land. He worked the land, put in a dairy farm, raised beef cattle, and it has become “The Hill” where we live and have started raising the 4th generation. Pa was extremely proud of the family that he and Nana started.

He shaped his children and their spouses, Wayne and Denese Sampson and Chad and Pauletta Stanley with love and a stern look on occasion. The grandchildren and their spouses, Dustin Sampson, Lenzie and Jacob Biber, Hunter and Bailey Stanley, Cole and Lollie Stanley, and Kailee Sampson received that same love but never the “mean look”. The absolute joy of Pa’s life was the great-grands, Anzlee Jo Biber and Carson David Stanley. He loved to get on the floor at their level and make them belly laugh or blow in his hands to make the train whistle.

Pa worked hard and became an expert welder. Metal buildings became the family business when Stanley Metal Designs was established. Pa and Chad have buildings from California to Texas and all over Oklahoma.

Pa was a member of Trinity Life Church where he lovingly became known as Captain. He opened the gate to the empty field full of stick tights and helped build the structure of the church building. After the church was completely finished, he made the decision to be baptized again. His walk with the Lord was the most important thing to him and he wanted to demonstrate to us all that serving God is the best way to live this life on earth.

Along the way, Pa and Nana helped raise and nurture Nana’s little brother, Phil Daniel, nephews, cousins, and neighbor kids. These especially included: Gary and Charles Daniel, Bub Sampson, Scotty Dennis, Jeff Willingham, Jeff Self, and Luke Balentine. Pa made many friends in his life that looked to him for a good funny story, great Godly advice, a swift kick in the seat, or a reassuring pat on the back. He wore the title “Ol’ Man” with great pride.

Special thank you to Victory Hospice and Nurse Abbey who helped and loved Pa in the short time she knew him.
