Ruby Darlene (Luster) Higginbotham

Ruby Darlene Higginbotham, 93, of Coleman, OK, passed away surrounded by her family on November 22, 2019, at Calera Manor Nursing Home in Calera, OK. She was born on January 9, 1926, in Turkey, TX, to Fred and Bertha (Ravan) Luster.
 
Ruby grew up in Wapanucka, OK, where she later married Lee Kirk Higginbotham on January 2, 1946. They made their home in Coleman, OK, where they had 36 wonderful years together before his passing on October 21, 1982.
   
Ruby worked at the Madill Sewing Factory for three years before becoming a cook in the cafeteria for Coleman Schools for many years. She also enjoyed being a housewife and serving the Lord as a member of the Coleman Church of Christ. Ruby was independent and lived and cared for herself in her home until recently becoming ill. She loved to farm, garden, can, sew, quilt, paint and cook for her large and numerous family gatherings. She and Lee Kirk thoroughly enjoyed each other’s company and went everywhere together. She always had a keen eye for a cow getting ready to calve or a bull that had crawled through the fence. 
 
Ruby is preceded in death by her husband, parents, one child, one brother, and five sisters.  

Ruby is survived by her daughters Gayle Woodard and husband Bud of McKinney, TX; Dixie Johnson and husband Randel of Coleman, OK; and Jan Walters and husband Delvin of Coleman, OK; sister Billie Sterling and husband Henry of Berryville, AR; grandson Chris Rhodes of Caney, OK; grandson Stacy Rhodes of Dallas, TX; grandson Marlon Johnson and wife Amanda of Coleman, OK; granddaughter Wende Mitchell and husband Jamie of Cyril, OK; granddaughter Dede Stephens and husband Travis of Coleman, OK; grandson Nicholas Johnson and wife Ashli of Coleman, OK; granddaughter Shilah Whitmire and husband Rayden of Coleman, OK; grandson Kalon Walters and wife Laura of Coleman, OK; 20 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will be on Monday, November 25, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at the Coleman Church of Christ on Hwy 48.

Family Hour will be Sunday, November 24, 2019, from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at Brown’s Funeral Service Chapel. Bro. Pat Mannon and Bro. Mike Pannell will be officiating.

Interment will follow the service at Coleman Cemetery.
