Gertrude was born on Sunday, Aug. 31, 1913, in Emmitt to John Wilburn and Edna Virgil (Cudd) West. She married Elmer Olen Dean on Jan. 2, 1930, in Egypt, Okla. She was a homemaker.Mrs. Dean was a member of the Folsom Freewill Baptist Church. She loved reading and going to church. She could remember e veryone’s birth dates and anniversary dates throughout the county and was acclaimed in the local newspaper.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers Charlie Delmer West, Oakley Albert West, Arnie West, Roy Turner West and John Floyd (Junior) West; sisters Edith Mae West, Edyth Fay West, Ruby Mildred West and Ruth Oleta West; grandchildren Donnie Dean and Angie Dean; daughter-in-laws Viola Yandell Dean and Dora Mae Workman Dean.
She is survived by her sons Jesse Dean and Leon Dean, both of Coleman; granddaughters Linda Herider and husband James, Oklahoma City, Sherry Bankston, Jaco Beach, Costa Rico, Rhonda Nail and husband John, Denison, Texas, Nancy Vincent and husband Ben, Denison, Texas, and Tammy Gibson, Denison, Texas; grandson Steve Dean and wife Anita, Durant; 15 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.Burial will be in Coleman, with Robert West, Logan Nail, Jordan Gibson, Steven Dean, Jimmy White, James Robert Herider and John Herider serving as pallbearers. Family hour will be today from 7-8 p.m. at the Coffey-Murray Funeral Home.
