Funeral Services for Donald Ray McCreary, 70, of Milburn,
Oklahoma will be held on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the First
Baptist Church in Tishomingo with Rev. Darrel Heath officiating, assisted by
Rev. Ron Forrest. Interment will follow in the Condon Grove Cemetery in Milburn.
Mr. McCreary passed away on Saturday, December 19th, at the Medical Center of
Southeastern Oklahoma in Durant.
Don was born on July 14, 1939 in Kenefic, Oklahoma to Ernest LeRoy McCreary and
Stella Lee Lollis McCreary. He grew up in Milburn and graduated from high school
there, without missing a day of school. He later graduated from Murray State
College in Tishomingo. Don married Carolyn (Carol) Ann Hipp on September 16,
1960 in Milburn and graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University in
Durant with a bachelor’s degree in Education in August of 1961. He accepted a
teaching position in Perry, Oklahoma and also was a football coach. In 1963, Don
made a career change and was hired by the USDA Agriculture Stabilization
Conservation Service as a County Executive Director, working until his
retirement in November 1993. During his working career they spent time in
Durant, Wilburton & Chickasha before settling in Johnston County in 1975. Don
was member of the First Baptist Church, the Tishomingo Masonic Lodge #91 and the
McAlester Scottish Rite, where he was a 32nd degree Mason.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Roy Wayne & James Ernest
McCreary; and a sister, Dorla Jean Buckhanon.
He is survived by his wife Carol, of the home; his son Jeffrey Don McCreary of
Milburn; his daughter & son-in-law, Gina Kay & Doug Kirkley of Coweta, Oklahoma;
her grandchildren, Micah Johnson & her husband Will of Mandeville, Louisiana,
Sgt. Jared McCreary, US Army serving in Iraq & his wife Cassy of Durant, Candace
McCreary, OSU-Stillwater, Jackson & Mitchell Kirkley of Coweta,
step-grandchildren, Justin Mays, serving in the US air force, Shelton & Taylor
Mays of Durant; great-grandchildren, McKenzi & Keely Mccreary of Durant; two
brothers & their spouses, Clyde & Arleta McCreary of Ada and Jerry& Neva
McCreary of Pauls Valley; two sisters & their spouses, Joy & Joe Neely of Broken
Arrow and JoAnn & Dale Hobbs of Melbourne, Florida; other relatives and a host
of friends.
