Funeral Services for FTMC Don L. Kopczynski USN (Ret), 81, of McKinney, Texas will be held on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at 10:00 a. m. in the Herb Clark Memorial Chapel with Rev. David Boggs officiating.
Interment will follow in the Condon Grove Cemetery in Milburn, Oklahoma with Military Honors provided by the United States Navy Honor Guard.
Mr. Kopczynski passed away on August 13, 2016 at his home. Don was born June 30, 1935 in Sunray, Texas to John Kopczynski and Jewell (Willis) Kopczynski. He grew up in Madill and joined the Navy in 1951, returning to Madill and graduating from high school in 1952. He continued his military career afterward and married Joyce Willard on May 31, 1956 in Madill. He served for a total of 20 years in the Navy , mostly as a radar technician and some of his accomplishments and awards include, he was a Chief Petty Officer, a Combat Veteran with four Good Conduct medals, received the Korea Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the China Sea Medal, the National Defense Service Medal with a Bronze Star and the Navy Occupation Medal in Europe. He retired in 1971 and began a 30 year career with Zurn Industries, the largest boiler maker company in the country. His position with Zurn was Sr. Boiler Technician and Consultant.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, two brothers and a grandson, Jon Kopczynski, Jr.
He is survived by his wife Joyce Willard Kopczynski; his son, Jon Kopczynski; his daughter, Jennipher Kopczynski Nixson; four grandchildren, Heather Kopczynski Perry, Rachel Nixson, Samuel Nixson and Sarah Nixson; six great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Pallbearers for the service will be: Ben Nixson, Samuel Nixson, Jon Kopczynski, Marty Chaney, Derek Collins, Garrett Driggers, Will Willard, Phil Ardrey and Logan Chaney.The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
