Lura Stone, 82, passed from this life on July 31, 2013, in Norman. She was born on Aug. 25, 1930, in Commerce, Texas, to parents Vernon T. and Bess Hughes.Lura was a graduate of East Texas State Teacher’s College. She began her professional career teaching special needs children in the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District in Texas. She then moved to Oklahoma and joined her husband, Richard, as owner/operators of the Jefferson County Abstract Company, and they were active in the Oklahoma Land Title Association and various local community organizations.
After retirement, she moved to Norman, where she joined many members of her family who reside there.Lura is preceded in death by her husband, Richard D. Stone, and three children, daughter Nell Renee Venner, and sons Brian G. Stone and Edward D. Stone.
She is survived by three sons, Nick H. Stone and wife Anna, Richard H. Chapman and wife Hayden, and Gregory E. Chapman and wife Dallas; grandchildren Sherry Goldsmith and family, Shannon Allen and family, Robyn Rogers and family, Carye Chapman, Nicole Hunzicker and family, Meredith Chapman, Messina Chapman; and 11 very special great grandchildren.Service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 6, 2013, in the Chapel of Havenbrook Funeral Home, 3401 Havenbrook St., Norman. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013, at Waurika Cemetery in Waurika.
