Mildred Ruth “Chick” Mitchell, age 91, of Eldorado, passed away early Wednesday morning, September 14, 2011.
Chick was born on September 24, 1919, in Eldorado, to Joseph and Betty Taylor (Ralston) Willis. After graduating from Eldorado School, she moved to Ft. Worth, Texas for a short time and then back to Eldorado. One night, Cecil Mitchell invited her out on a date and they began their courtship. Cecil was later drafted during WWII and sent to New Guinea. Chick moved to Ft. Worth where she was employed by the United States Army Air Corps working with the Communications Section in the Engineering Department. After Cecil returned from New Guinea, they were married in Ft. Worth, Texas on August 22, 1943 and moved back to Eldorado where they began a long-time farming operation. They spent the next sixty-one wonderful years together before his death on April 9, 2005. A long-time member of the Eldorado Church of Christ, Chick enjoyed reading, cooking and working crossword puzzles.
Preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Maurice Willis and Herbert Willis and two sisters, Bernice Willis and Kathleen Muirhead, she is survived by two sons, Cecil Jerry Mitchell of Quanah, Texas and Danny Stephen Mitchell and wife Brenda of Wheeler, Texas; three grandchildren, Heath Mitchell and wife Tricia, Hillary Lindsey and husband Shawn and Hadley Mitchell; five great grandchildren, Bentlee Lindsey, Bryce Lindsey, Tate Mitchell, Trace Mitchell and Weston Mitchell; one nephew, Sid Willis and wife Carol of Edmond; one niece, Evelyn Ford and husband Charles of New Mexico; special friends, Corkey and Mary Mitchell along with many other relative and a host of friends.
Funeral services for Chick Mitchell will be at 2 p.m., Friday, September 16, 2011, at Harmon County Funeral Home Chapel with Joe Waugh officiating. Interment will follow at the Eldorado Cemetery under the direction of Harmon County Funeral Home of Hollis.
The family will greet friends on Friday, before the service, from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Harmon County Funeral Home.
